Letters to the Editor

“It’s the sound the universe makes when it clears its throat.”
Dear Editor:
I was wondering if any one involved in this year’s San Diego Pride could shed some light on why this year’s logo looks like an Om or AUM?
For those out there who don’t know what an Om is, it’s known as the cosmic vibration of the universe or as a charismatic yogi I once knew put it, “It’s the sound the universe makes when it’s clearing its throat.”
Many people and things tune into this sound and use it to stabilize their inner and outer worlds. It’s Sanskrit and is considered the most supreme and sacred syllable. In fact you’re soaking in it as you read this letter.
The Pride logo looks like the number 30 and then it kind of has a guy doing a little dance but there’s no mention of peace or harmony. Just a number, ‘30 years of pride, strength in numbers.’
Anyway just wondering,
Sloan Gomez
“[I]f you look at Jim Holman, the whole picture becomes clear.”
Dear Editor:
If you look any deeper at the Reader than the cover page, you can readily see its bigoted view of the citizens of San Diego. Furthermore, if you look at Jim Holman, the whole picture becomes clear. Disgusting, but clear. I cannot imagine what defense can be presented that would balance out the simple fact that the publisher of the largest “alternative” publication in the nation honestly thinks that a decent chunk of the residents in San Diego are immoral, disgusting, and constitute a real and legitimate threat to children, and the populace in general.
Anyone in media knows that lying through omission is the real way to get business done if you’re trying to dodge a topic, and Jim Holman is a perfect example. He won’t engage in conversation about his views, refuses to be interviewed, and otherwise just keeps the situation off his plate. By producing roughly 220 pages a week (over half of which are filled with ads), you just drown out the discussion and replace it with other “news worthy” topics.
Kudos to you folks for exposing this, as I try to do for all of our listeners. If past performance is at all indicative of future results, I’m sure Jim will just let this flare up, he wont say a word, and he’ll just keep the presses going, never addressing why it is that there are no men seeking men or women seeking women in his personal ads, or why any serious glbt topics are barely, if ever, covered with an ounce of journalistic professionalism.
