10. Look butch and go hit some golf balls at the driving range
11. Look really butch and go hit some balls at the batting cage
12. Be kids again. Head down to the beach and make sand castles
13. For a special occasion, take a ride on a hot air balloon, followed by champagne
14. Check out a pool hall downtown (this does not mean take your date to a bar in Hillcrest)
15. Rent roller blades and hit the boardwalk along Mission and Pacific beaches
16. Enjoy the carnival-like atmosphere at Belmont Park
17. Head out to Julian for a hike in the mountains and don’t forget to stop for apple pie on the way home
18. See live comedy – if you both don’t think it’s funny, you’re that much more of a match
19. Enjoy a picnic on the cliffs overlooking La Jolla Shores
20. Lobster dinner and cervezas in Puerto Nuevo
21. Two words: miniature golf!
22. You may not be able to afford them, but check out model homes together on a Sunday afternoon
23. Take an art class together. Think Demi Moore in Ghost
24. Volunteer for a day: whether beach cleanup, serving meals or helping out at an event, working together can reveal surprising traits and create lasting bonds
25. Dinner and a movie? Foolish mortal! It’s all about live theater. Check out Sledgehammer, 6th @ Penn, The Funhouse, Diversionary, Cygnet or the Old Globe, to name a few
26. Cook dinner in. And make it complex! Learning how to make soufflé or a Baked Alaska can make for good times, even if it’s a disaster!
27. Take a tour. Even if you’re both locals, museum, factory, brewery and underwater tours can reveal interesting fun facts to make fun of later over dinner
28. Be a yuppie – test drive a cool car neither of you can afford
29. If you don’t already know how, surfing lessons can be a cheap adventure
30. Theme dates. Everything French? Everything green? Whatever your theme, half the fun is how you incorporate it
