Edge Fitness is a personal training business specializing in a nine-week body transformation program. They emphasize education, nutrition and goal setting. Their workouts are tailored to fit each client’s unique needs and challenges. Derek Heintz and Brian White founded the company in March 2004 and they would like to see Edge Fitness become a brand associated with high quality personalized nutrition, exercise programs, tools and education.

The company is unique in the fact that they only hire trainers that have a college degree in a related field.

“There are too many trainers out there that don’t have the education and background to safely and effectively get you to your goals,” White says. “That is not the case with Edge Fitness, Inc.”

White and Heintz focus on teaching their clients the skills they need to enjoy a lifetime worth of fitness. They have also devised a one-of-a-kind fitness check-up system. After clients complete their nine-week training program, they are eligible for the “Lifetime Edge” status, a maintenance program that involves two to four half-hour check-ups a month to make sure that they are keeping up with their exercise and nutritional journal and to make adjustments when necessary.

White and Heintz have trained hundreds of people over the last 10 years. White, who has lived in San Diego for the last six years, relocated here from Massachusetts. He worked for 24 Hour Fitness before transferring his clients to Powerhouse Gym, where he met his business partner, Heintz, who graduated from U.C. Davis with a degree in exercise science.

White and Heintz have worked in Hillcrest for several years and recently set up booths at The Center’s GLBT Health Fair and at Hillcrest Mardi Gras to help educate the community on the importance of health and fitness. They also hold free seminars to educate people who may not be able to afford a personal trainer.
