“Abraham Lincoln must be spinning in his grave!”
Dear Editor:
The Republican Party’s draft platform removes any doubt that our brothers and sisters in Log Cabin clubs across the nation must denounce and not support George W. Bush as their choice for president in the November election.
Why? (As if they needed another reason?)
The draft, as quoted in daily newspapers Aug. 25, read: “We strongly support President Bush’s call for a constitutional amendment that fully protects marriage. Attempts to redefine marriage in a single city or state could have serious consequences throughout the country, and anything less than a constitutional amendment, passed by Congress and ratified by the states, is vulnerable to being overturned by activist judges.”
Abraham Lincoln must be spinning in his grave! Certainly, this is not the path the Great Emancipator envisioned for his all-inclusive party, a party for the people – now, very clearly perceived as the party of Hitler.
If Log Cabin Republicans cannot bring themselves to leave the party that continues to shun them like the plague at every turn, at least implore them not to take a position of support for Bush in any campaign ads this upcoming election season.

“It is a shame, that you only have once voice while screaming from the rooftops that other publications contain articles favorable to the gay community.”
Dear Editor:
I shall miss Janet, she was the only one that printed both sides liberal and conservative, and I’ve wondered over that past few weeks why this publication has returned to only one sided comments in the letters to the editor know I know.
It is a shame, that you only have once voice while screaming from the rooftops that other publications contain articles favorable to the gay community.
Russell I wish you well, and sincerely hope you will continue in the tradition of Janet to be of both minds and not just narrow mindedness paper catering to the wants of the Politically Correct 20 year gay men, with no thought of anyone else.
Ronald Mason

“It’s not about him and his civic group; it’s about the wasted votes, stupid!”
Dear Editor:
Like all politicians and most political activists, Garrick Wilhelm avoids the issue in his commentary. The rest of the gay community wants to know if Log Cabin Republicans going to have the audacity to endorse Bush who is seeking a constitutional amendment against us?
He doesn’t under how non-Republican gays can be so intolerant and disrespectful of their views. It’s not about him and his civic group; it’s about the wasted votes, stupid!

“I am convinced the time is imperative for us all to try to end the mystique about gay people…”
Dear Editor:
I am convinced the time is imperative for us all to try to end the mystique about gay people and the bigoted words getting around in our society about us, or is it better put about ‘them’, forever.
This is a piece I’ve entitled, for us - ‘A Call To Activism’; for non-gays -‘Psalm Busters For A Modern Society’.
1.) I believe, what is greatly wrong with America is what is wrong with bigotry, apathy, undecided ness, and lack of fortitude, and that includes the actions and inactions by our religious, political and corporate leaders in America.
2.) I know, ‘religion’ was meant to be ‘invigorating’, pleasingly bright, informative and giving light on social, psychological and similar problems.
3.) The ‘sinners’ of churches have perverted the message to their flocks and now to us all, and have caused some churches to be like the lecherous spider, poised, ready, to pounce upon the unsuspecting and the ‘innocent’.
4.) To Not Believe in a religion is simply not to tote the line of concept of that particular religion.
5.) Because mankind is still in its formative stages, I also know it is right and just and fair, to refuse to procreate if one is not happy with one’s body, mind, dna, genes and so forth.
6.) I believe in and support the right to refuse heterosexual union when life, reason, sexual make-up, debility or even the times call for another way.
7.) As an educator and myth buster, I know that bigotry is an illness that involves: false prophecy, instilling hate and fear, indoctrination of ideas contrary to peace, blasphemous sermonizing, of lying to people and lying about people.
8.) I know that once fully indoctrinated, bigotry turns its ugly head to become a mean spirited ness, a spiritual illness. Once it becomes mean spirited, it becomes an illness of violent intent. Once it becomes violent, the innocent are hurt.
9.) Sickness in Religions, in Society and in People must be stemmed, stopped, today!
10.) And finally I must stand firmly and remind us all that bigotry must not be coddled to and/or supported by American Politicians, Businesses, Educational Facilities, other religions and people.
