Rock the Walk
Published Thursday, 23-Sep-2004 in issue 874
It’s a benefit concert for AIDS Walk San Diego 2004, hosted by Joelle Reeder and Allison Gill to raise funds for HIV/AIDS research and services. The event takes place on Friday, Sept. 24, at The Casbah, located at 2501 Kettner Blvd. in San Diego. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
There will be a five-band lineup, raffles and giveaways, and that warm and fuzzy feeling you get from donating to a good cause.
How did it start?
Joelle, who will be participating in the 5K walk and who has been raising funds as a registrant of AIDS Walk since May 2004, is a local web designer and co-owner of Moxie Design Studios. In addition to soliciting donations, she also participated in a fundraising event called Project-Blog where she stayed up and blogged every half hour for 24 hours straight in order to raise funds for this important cause.
Allison works her magic as the bass player for local San Diego band Velvet Tongue and is also Joelle’s best friend of almost 10 years. When Joelle wanted to host a charity concert to raise more money for AIDS Walk, she knew Allison was just the person to help her make it an amazing event. Mix Allison’s talent and knowledge of the local music scene with Joelle’s creativity and fundraising efforts and Rock the Walk was born.
What’s the lineup?
The bands are: Breakfast Superbee, The Q, Velvet Tongue, The After Party and Rayleigh Scattering. Check ’em all out, by linking to Rock the Walk’s site via www.gaylesbiantimes.com.
