After a lengthy stay in the hospital, John Stotts, better known to the San Diego GLBT community as Satin Styles, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29.
Born in Bremerhaven, Germany, Satin was a longtime member of the Imperial Court de San Diego.
“Satin was not only a gifted entertainer extraordinaire, but also an individual with a big heart, which was reflected by his many years of community fundraising and charity work that has helped so many,” said Linda Childers, president of the Imperial Court de San Diego’s board of directors.
Satin is survived by his mother, Marie Munoz (Mama Wheels); stepfather Peter Munoz; father John Stotts, Jr.; sisters Andrea Kimberly L. Hoskin, Dawn Munoz and Jerlena Stotts; brother Peter Munoz; grandmothers Beatrice W. Hicks and Dorothy Stotts; god sister Gamina Oliver; one niece; one nephew; four great-nephews; and one great niece.
Among a host of friends in the GLBT community that he considered family, Satin adopted three people that he considered his drag daughters – Regina, Lexy and Crystal Styles. He considered Sister GiGi Masters his drag sister and Dawn Walker one of his closest friends.
Satin is preceded in death by his grandfather, Calvin Wilson.
The family has asked that instead of flowers people make a donation to the Queen Eddie Youth Fund.
A celebration of life will be held for Satin on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 3:00 p.m. at The Center.
