Listen to Women for a CHANGE: Join The Old Women’s Project for a women’s action, with a procession downtown, protesting George Bush building his empire on the backs of the women of the world – in Iraq and Afghanistan, Africa and the U.S. The group meets at 12:00 noon at the Federal Building, at the corner of Front and Broadway in downtown San Diego. Ballroom dance lessons: Ever wanted to dance with a partner to the wonderful strains of beautiful waltz, fox trot, tango or rumba? Make your own coloring book: The Women’s Resource Center is hosting the creators of the coloring book Girls will be boys will be girls will be boys, currently on tour, that revamps old images from fairytales and children’s books with progressive, sassy captions and images that challenge traditional ideas of gender and sexuality. All ages are invited to participate in a workshop starting at 2:00 p.m. in which participants will create a collective coloring book. Ships up close: As part of San Diego’s Fleet Week, commanders of the Third Fleet and Naval Surface Forces – U.S. Pacific Fleet – invite the public to tour their naval ships and check out the latest technology. Knowledgeable military personnel lead the tours, offering insider information on the day-to-day workings on board. Tours run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Admission is free. Come out and play: It’s National Coming Out Day! A GLBT Latino/youth of color discussion and action group takes place at the Voz Alta space from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The twice-monthly gathering, called Arco Iris Lounge, welcomes youth 24 and under and their friends and family to mingle and network. It’s got hattitude: San Diego REPertory Theatre opens its 29th season with a new musical adapted from the book Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats by Michael Cunningham and Craig Mayberry.
