Morgan Stanley tops Moby Dick’s to remain undefeated
Kickers win moves them into tie for second place

In Week 7 of the San Diego Hoops basketball league season, all eyes were on the matchup between Morgan Stanley and Moby Dick’s, and many wondered who, if anyone, would defeat Morgan Stanley this year. In the end, Morgan Stanley remained on top. And the Kickers team, after a rocky start this season, rode their three-game winning streak into a tie for second place in the league.
Week 7 kicked off with The Loft facing AAA Mortgage Market. After getting off to a slow start, with neither team sinking a bucket in the first 10 minutes of the game, things picked up for AAA, who took a commanding 22-7 lead. In the second half, AAA continued to pound away at The Loft, who struggled to sink a basket. In the end, AAA prevailed, winning the game 48-24.
Game 2 of the night was the showdown between the undefeated first place team in the league, Morgan Stanley, and Moby Dick’s, the second place team. Moby Dick’s played hard in the first half and hung in with Morgan Stanley, with Rick Saunders leading the charge for them, scoring a total of 24 points in the game. Coach Paul Demke of Morgan Stanley led his team with 17 points, and in the end carried the team to a 48-38 victory, sending a clear reminder to the rest of the league that Morgan Stanley is the team to beat this year.
The struggling Hummingbird/Brians’ team faced Colorworks Painting in Game 3 of the night. Still looking for their first win of the season, Hummingbird/Brians’ Robert Wiggins had his work cut out for him fending off Colorworks inside game. Colorworks kept passing the ball to Kevin Yin, who racked up 15 points in the game. When things got tight inside, they turned to Randy Williams who scored 15 points from the outside for the team. Despite a great effort from Hummingbird/Brians’ that included a 17-point game from Robert Wiggins, it wasn’t enough – Colorworks went on to win the game 45-44.
Week 7’s games came to a close with the surging Kickers team facing Pecs.
Pecs got off to a great start – their passing game was on fire and they sank some key shots. Getting their fast break going, Kickers tried to take control of the game, but Pecs managed to slow them down and set the pace for the game. In the end, it came down to scoring: Kickers’ Dwight Dunn dominated with 24 points, helping to bring it home for Kickers 52-46. Eric Edwards, the high scorer for Pecs, sank 13 points.
Basketball takes a break this week for the Thanksgiving holiday, but the San Diego Hoops’ 2004-05 season returns to the court on Wednesday, Dec. 1.
