Police shut down bar where play with nude performers was shown
Atlanta bar owner gets citation for ‘Naked Boys Singing’ performance

ATLANTA (AP) – Police shut down a bar that was showing a play featuring nudity because the business didn’t have an adult entertainment license.
But the manager of The Armory bar in midtown Atlanta said police overreacted. He said the play, which had been running since August, is theater – not adult entertainment.
The play, Naked Boys Singing, is a gay-themed show, billed as a musical revue that “celebrates the splendors of male nudity in comedy, song and dance.” It features six male actors who are in the buff for much of the performance.
The show spent six years off-Broadway in New York and is currently playing in several cities.
Three plainclothes police officers went to the bar, observed part of the show, which was in a room next to the bar, then shut it down. They issued manager Doug Youngblood a citation.
“You have to investigate, and if what you’re seeing may be considered adult entertainment, I suppose they feel it needs to be shut down,” said police spokesperson John Quigley.
Youngblood was later allowed to reopen the bar, but the later performance of the show was canceled. He said he hopes to be able to show the play again soon.
