Basketball league finishes 16th week of regular season

The playoff season for the San Diego Hoops basketball league is around the corner and all teams are gearing up for the tournament. Morgan Stanley didn’t even have to move a muscle to improve to 14-1 over all and remain in first place within the league with a forfeit win against Colorworks’ Painting, who fell to 4-11 and is tied for last place.
In game two of the evening, The Loft put up a great fight against one of the best teams in the league, Kickers, but ended up losing by seven points, 49-56. Kickers improved their record to12-3 sitting in second place, while The Loft fell to 4-11, tied for last place.
The Loft held their own in the first half, playing great defense and transitioning well to an offensive attack. Kickers pulled out the victory in the end, but not without a fight from The Loft. Brandon Culley scored an outstanding five 3-point baskets and two free throws to end the game with 17 points, becoming The Loft’s high scorer for the night. Kickers’ Robert Simmons chipped in 21 points to lead his team in scoring. Simmons’ speed and agility around the court contributed to his successful night.
The third game featured a dominating performance by Brians’ American Eatery’s Katelyn Pearson, who contributed 19 points to leading the team to a 51-32 victory over Pecs. Pearson took control and led Brians’ offensive effort. Pecs struggled throughout the night, missing many of their shots. Brians’ won their third straight game to improve to 6-9 overall, tied for third place, while Pecs fell to 5-9-1, falling into sixth place.
AAA Mortgage Market defeated Moby Dick’s 58-50 in the last game of the evening. Brett Drake for AAA started off with three straight 3-point shots to take the lead from Moby Dick’s. AAA’s center, Dan Taylor, was a huge asset for the team. Although he struggled hitting free throws, Taylor did a great job rebounding and scoring against Rick Saunders and Rick Kilgore of Moby Dick’s. Saunders finished the night with 22 points, making him Moby Dick’s high scorer for the night. AAA improved their record to 8-6-1 to stay in third place in the league while Moby Dick’s fell to 6-9 remaining in third place.
