GLBT ski week in Tahoe: Ascent’s inaugural event, The Winter Party at Lake Tahoe, includes is a weeklong event (Feb. 27-March 6) that includes skiing, snowboarding, comedy nights and a performance by the Indigo Girls. There will also be a full slate of dance parties with hot West Coast DJs spinning. Proceeds from the event will benefit seven charitable organizations including the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Knitting workshop: Seasoned crafter Mixelle will teach the knitting basics in a three-week course, progressing from simple to more advanced projects. Cost is $15 for the course or $5 a class. Fleet Science Center planetarium presents The Sky Tonight at 7:00 p.m. The show is geared towards backyard astronomers, children and anyone who wants to impress their date while stargazing. Mental Yoga: Mental Yoga is taking popular culture by storm. Why the buzz? The technique teaches a non-physical process that eliminates stress and its source – and it works.
