A newly formed gay men’s golf league has started to grow in San Diego. The league is kicking off their spring season on Sunday, March 6, at the Riverwalk Golf Course. The league anticipates playing every other Sunday on a variety of municipal golf courses located throughout San Diego County, with a tee off time between 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Brad Taylor has played a part in organizing the league and in getting more golfers to participate. At first Taylor said he did not know many other gay men who had an interest in playing golf, but gradually found more. The group originated informally with just four people but has grown this past year.

“In the fall we probably had a good rotation of about 12 guys,” said Taylor of the league’s first season of play. “The main thing that we are trying to stress is that it’s open to all levels of golf from the beginner all the way up. We have all levels practicing their game.”

There is no registration fee to participate in the league. Brian Jackson, another league member, has been able to negotiate less expensive green fees than the public would be able to obtain. The green fees range according to the particular course but are typically between $15 and $40 per outing.

Only those who RSVP to Taylor by 5:00 p.m. the Thursday evening before the scheduled outing will be guaranteed a spot for the scheduled course and time. Details in regards to tee times and greens fees will be confirmed on the Friday prior to the scheduled outing.

RSVPs for the March 6 outing at the Riverwalk Golf Course must be received by Thursday, March 3, by 5:00 p.m.
