Pride parade scholarships available
San Diego LGBT Pride is accepting requests from organizations seeking financial assistance to create floats for this summer’s 31st annual Pride parade, scheduled for 11:00 a.m., July 30, along University Avenue in Hillcrest.
The organization’s parade scholarship fund is available to nonprofit organizations with annual operating budgets of less than $50,000.
“This is a great opportunity for organizations to participate in the parade that normally couldn’t because of budgetary restraints,” said Suanne Pauley, executive director for San Diego LGBT Pride.
The awards range between $250 and $750 for each qualifying group. Past scholarship recipients have included New Creation United Church of Christ and San Ysidro Health Center.
Interested organizations are asked to mail or drop off a written plan and budget for their proposed floats by June 1 to the Pride office, located at 1807 Robinson Ave. #106, San Diego, CA 92103. For more information about this year’s Pride weekend, titled “Equal Rights! No More, No Less!”, call (619) 297-7683.
