Published Thursday, 24-Jul-2003 in issue 813
V.A.G.I.N.A. (Vibrant Activist Grrls Invoking National Attention) is a grassroots organization formed in 2001 to reorganize and raise the visibility of Dyke March and Day of the Dyke, San Diego’s annual celebration of solidarity and demonstration against discrimination, harassment and violence against LBT women. The purpose is to create community and visibility for women who identify as lesbian, transgender, and bisexual, forming a united front of sisters working for equal rights and providing education on issues of importance to women.
In addition, the group produces a yearly health fair called VaginaFest to promote the health and well-being of lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer women, offering free workshops on women’s health and well-being, and other sex-positive events. V.A.G.I.N.A. also contributed to the founding of the Women’s Resource Center at The Center.
