Toga party at Canes: An ancient Roman toga-themed party at Canes in Mission Beach kicks off at 8:00 p.m. DJ Rickee WhoopWhoop from London, DJ Blue of Encinitas and DJ Dave of N.Y.C. spin as a dance team of fire spinners keep the party hot. Toga attire is required at the 21-and-over event, and admission is $10 in advance and $15 at the door. A portion of the proceeds will go to tsunami relief funds. Easter Brunch at Martinis: Easter Sunday Brunch takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Martinis Above Fourth, featuring an Easter Bonnet Contest and an Easter Egg Hunt for grown-ups. Egg-centric headwear: The Gaslamp Quarter’s annual Easter Bonnet Parade is the perfect opportunity to dress up the kids in their goofiest Easter lids and treat them to an afternoon of fun just their size. Kids ages 2-12 can participate in the Sidewalk Stroll, where local celebrity judges hand out awards to the most fabulous and original bonnets. Handsome Boy Modeling School: The brainchild of producers Chest Rockwell (Prince Paul) and Nathaniel Merriweather (Dan the Automator), Handsome Boy Modeling School released 2004’s White People to critical acclaim. Their polished hip-hop meets electronic sound pulls together a diverse array of musicians – from Cat Power, Mars Volta and Wu Tang Clan – keeping hip-hop vital and diverse.
