New softball associations announced during NAGAAA meetings
San Diego is host of this year’s Gay Softball World Series
Published Thursday, 31-Mar-2005 in issue 901
San Diego, the hosts of this year’s Gay Softball World Series (GSWS), was the site of the annual winter meetings of the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA) last month.
Each year, the host city has two administrative-type meetings, one in February and the other during the opening weekend of the GSWS in August. These meetings are where the official business of softball takes place.
Last month in San Diego, the NAGAAA council announced that the Open Division has added four new associations to its membership: Softball Austin of Austin, Texas; the Saturday Softball Beer League of Milwaukee, Wis.; the Sooner State Softball Alliance of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and the Central Florida Softball League of Orlando, Fla. The NAGAAA’s Women’s Division welcomed the Savoy Women’s Softball League from San Jose.
With the addition of these cities and leagues, the Open Division now has 32 associations and the Women’s Division has 24.
The other major announcement made at the winter meetings was the awarding of the 2006 Gay Softball World Series to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., during the week of Aug. 11-19, 2006.
Series 2005 “Fun in the Sun” in San Diego is slated for the week of August 14-20. This year, approximately 2,500 athletes from 175 teams throughout the U.S. and Canada are expected to play in the seven divisions of play. America’s Finest City Softball League will serve as host.
