Bourbon Street Hurricanes remain undefeated in SDAFFL
Brians’ American Eatery Bears secure first win of the season

The third week of play pitted two undefeated teams together, the Pecs Gators, led by quarterback Dave Digiacomo, against Vance Doherty’s Bourbon Street Hurricanes. The Hurricanes prevailed 19-12, which brought their record to 3-0 in a tight defensive struggle that was expected to be a high-scoring shootout.
So far this season no team has scored against the Hurricanes in the second half. Going into halftime, this defensive struggle was tied at 12-12, and it appeared any team could have taken control of the second half.
Digiacomo simply could not generate the offense he hoped for in responding to the Gators’ excellent pass rushing. Still, Bourbon Street found CJ Davila and Ron Addeo for touchdown scores, and a run from Doherty sealed this defensive struggle.
Brians’ American Eatery Bears got past Hamburger Mary’s Cowboys 30-26 for their first win of the season. Playing man-to-man with the Cowboys seemed like a hard enough task for any team, but the Bears shook up the Cowboys’ receivers. The Bears got on the board first, scoring from their first possession, driving down the field with one of three touchdown passes to Brian Wilburn for the day. On the Cowboys’ first possession, they scored on a clutch catch by one of two touchdowns of the game from Jason Hefley, but couldn’t generate anything after that.
Another touchdown for the Cowboys came when an errant pass bounced off the head of a Bears defensive player and into the hands of a waiting Todd Andrews. Other outstanding players for the Bears included captain Jim Giacobbe with two sacks.
SDAFFL games will be played this Saturday, April 30, at Linda Vista Recreational Center at 11:00 a.m. For more information visit www.gaylesbiantimes.com for a link to SDAFFL’s website.
