David Sedaris: Described as “one of the most shameless, acid, vaulting wits on planet Earth,” author David Sedaris, who has penned such recent classics as Naked, Barrel Fever and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, reads from new and published works at 8:00 p.m. at Spreckels Theatre, located at 121 Broadway. Adams Avenue Roots Festival: Spring is here, and it’s festival time! The Adams Avenue Roots Festival is an annual celebration of music, food, culture and community where attendees can sample food ranging from Mexican to African and check out numerous musical stages showcasing world music, reggae, Cajun/zydeco, rock, bluegrass, folk and everything in between. Festival runs Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. along Adams Avenue. Admission is free. (619) 282-7329.
Belly dancing at Kung Food: San Diego’s healthiest, hippest vegetarian restaurant hosts Afro/Cuban and Middle Eastern dance with live music, vocals and spoken word. Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival: The annual two-day fete of top live band performances comes to the desert town of Indio’s Empire Polo Club this weekend, featuring Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, The Arcade Fire, the Chemical Brothers, Bauhaus, Black Star and New Order. Earth Fair: The annual environmental fair and Earth Day celebration features over 200 exhibitors showcasing cleaner cars, alternative energy sources and new technology, as well as five entertainment venues, health-food vendors and an environmental home exhibit. Pageant: Cygnet Theatre’s hilarious, critically acclaimed tale of six beauty queens competing to be Miss Glamouresse, in which judges from the audience crown a different winner every night, has been extended through May 22.
