Business Spotlight: The Rev. Marcia Hootman, New Thought Center and www.marryu.com

The New Thought Center is an inclusive, affirming spiritual family that honors all spirituality. Using the teachings of masters such as Buddha, Jesus, Krishna, Moses, etc., the center has been around for 12 years.
The Rev. Marcia Hootman has been senior minister for the last three years, but has been with the ministry for 10 years.
“We are unique because we preach no doctrine or dogma; we’re a combination of science and spirituality that celebrates life and love in any form,” Rev. Hootman said.
She has officiated at dozens of weddings and commitment ceremonies, from religious ceremonies to ceremonies with no mention of God at all.
“I look forward to the day when I can sign a legal marriage license for same-sex couples,” she said.
Rev. Hootman has lived in San Diego most of her life, and has held various careers, including in the corporate world of sales, writing books and speaking. Her and her partner reside in Carmel Valley.
“As a minister of a non-judgmental teaching, I feel compelled to reach out to any people who are sometimes looked upon and treated as ‘less than perfect,’ and welcome everyone into my life and work,” she said.
An active member of the Greater San Diego Business Association, Rev. Hootman also volunteers whenever she can. She is in the process of starting a North County business-networking group.
“I find the community to be a loving and fun-loving, supportive group of people I can call my family and friends, and I want to give that support back whenever it’s needed and wanted,” she said.
