San Diego pool player takes top honor

For the first time in 25 years, a San Diego pool player, Terri Estep, has won the coveted Woman’s Trophy at the West Coast Challenge (WCC) pool tournament. Estep plays for Flicks during the regular season of the San Diego Pool Association, who hosted the 51st WCC July 8-10 at the Town and Country Resort in Mission Valley. The WCC is a semi-annual state tournament with individuals and teams representing San Francisco, Los Angeles, Long Beach and San Diego.
Other San Diegans who placed at the WCC included Joe Meyers (second place in Open Individuals) in behind Dale Beatie of Los Angeles, David Heinen (third place), Shawn Hill (fourth place) and Kim Walker (eighth place).
In the city team event, Moby Dick’s placed second behind Power of Six from Long Beach. In the Hi/Lo team competition, San Diego’s Michael Loyer and Jorge Calvo took second place behind Mike Maxwell and Paul Johnson of San Francisco.
This year’s tournament saw the installation of the WCC Hall of Fame. Inductees from San Diego included Doyle Fisher, Brad Hasper, David Heinen, Steve Holt, Meta Neuschler, Mike Passante and Kim Walker.
The next WCC will be held January 2006 in Long Beach. The San Diego regular season of play begins July 18 at various bars in San Diego.
