Frida at Sapphic Cinema: The Women’s Resource Center at The Center hosts a film series of works by, for and about lesbian, bisexual, transgender and feminist women on the fourth Friday of every month at 7:00 p.m. This month’s film is Frida. Moonlight and Magnolias: This world-premiere comedy takes audiences into the inner sanctum of 1939 Hollywood, where David O. Selznick has just shut down production on Gone With the Wind to rewrite the script. This behind-the-scenes comedy comes to life as three icons of the film industry battle over one of the greatest movies ever made. Fashion Awards Gala: Fashion Careers College presents their annual “Golden Hanger Fashion Awards Gala” at the Town & Country Resort and Convention Center. This year’s theme is the music and fashion of the Cole Porter era. A VIP reception begins at 5:30 p.m. and a public receptions starts at 6:00 p.m. The show features the fashions of Jordan, Zandra Rhodes, Shimmer Clothing, SAAZ Designs, Blackard Designs and Elle Jewelry, among others. A Clockwork Orange: As part of its Midnight Madness film series, Ken Cinema presents Stanley Kubrick’s nightmarish, satiric horror show, which has lost none of its power to shock. Alex, a Beethoven-loving, head-bashing punk, leads his gang of “droogs” on ultra-violent assaults – until he is captured by authorities and subjected to nasty behavior-modification therapy. Queer sci-fi: The San Diego Queer Sci-Fi Book Group reads and discusses science fiction and fantasy novels that address issues of gender and sexuality once a month at 4:00 p.m. at David’s Coffeehouse, located 3766 Fifth Ave. Novels may be by GLBT writers and/or contain GLBT characters, or they may examine sexuality, gender and culture in interesting ways. Adams Avenue Antique Faire: Antique merchants as well as other purveyors of cool vintage and collectible goods take to the street for a full day of browsing, buying, appraising, and community goodwill.
