Navratilova settles gay credit card lawsuit
Tennis legend allegedly disagrees with Rainbow Card’s association with gay TV shows

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Martina Navratilova has settled her lawsuit against a company that markets credit cards to gays and lesbians on July 19.
The tennis star sued Conshohocken, Pa.-based Do Tell Inc. in federal court in Philadelphia in March because she disagreed with the way the company’s Rainbow Card was being marketed.
Do Tell had used Navratilova to market the card since 1995 with the tennis star’s permission, her lawsuit said.
But in late 2004, Navratilova came at odds with the card’s marketing and asked Do Tell to stop using her image, according to her lawsuit. She objected to the card’s being associated with the cable TV shows “The L Word” and “Queer as Folk,” calling the shows “depraved,” Do Tell said in court papers.
Terms of the settlement, reported to the judge handling the case, were not released. Lawyers for both sides declined to comment.
Navratilova had been seeking at least $75,000 in damages from Do Tell.
Navratilova is a nine-time Wimbledon champion and winner of 18 Grand Slam singles titles. She also owns a record 167 singles titles and 40 Grand Slam doubles titles.
The Rainbow Card helps fund the non-profit Rainbow Coalition, which promotes the health and social well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
