Fall sports season begins
Published Thursday, 29-Sep-2005 in issue 927
As fall approaches, many sports teams are gearing up for their seasons, while others are already in full swing or have started team tryouts and practices.
The co-ed basketball league San Diego Hoops starts its season on Oct. 19. Membership is $65, which covers members’ jerseys and court fees, and helps pay for referees and trophies at the end of the 19-week season. All players must register and take part in one of two scout nights, which allow coaches to scout out players for their teams in order to qualify to compete in the league. The next scout night is Oct. 5. San Diego Hoops will be holding a Draft Party at Pecs on Oct. 16 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with raffle prizes and official team announcements. For more information, visit www.sandiegohoops.com, or send an e-mail to shiwimachito@yahoo.com.
San Diego Armada Rugby Football Club (SDARFC) is starting pre-season games leading up to its regular season in January. SDARFC is a novice-level team, open to all players regardless of experience and physical fitness level. Rugby can be played by people with various body types – fast, lithe bodies; slower, thicker bodies; tall; short; young; old. Regular season games, against gay and straight teams, will be played both at home and away throughout Southern California. Pre-season games are scheduled in San Francisco, Las Vegas and Phoenix. For more information, visit their Web site at www.sdarmada.org, or visit one of the team’s practices.
