Audre Lorde tribute: The Center’s Women’s Resource Center will pay tribute to black feminist poet and writer Audre Lorde at 7:00 p.m. at The Center with a screening of the hour-long documentary The Edge of Each Other’s Battles, The Vision of Audre Lorde.

Queer short films: FilmOut San Diego will be co-presenter at the San Diego Asian Film Festival for the gay Asian short film program, entitled “My So-called Queer Life,” which features seven short films. The program will be shown at 7:40 p.m. at the UltraStar Mission Valley at Hazard Center (formerly Mann Theatres), located off the 163 and Friars Road at 7510 Hazard Center Dr. For tickets, call (858) 650-3459.

Mira Mesa Street Fair: Check out arts/crafts booths, businesses, food and non-profit/public service exhibits. There will be plenty of entertainment, including kids’ rides, activities and two stages with local performers. Parking and admission are free. Karlfest for Surfrider: In a San Diego-style celebration of Oktoberfest, the Karl Strauss Brewing Company is hosting a microbrew and music festival to benefit the Surfrider Foundation. The festival takes place from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., featuring live bands, local merchants, food and Karl Strauss beer. All proceeds will be donated to the Surfrider Foundation and I Love a Clean San Diego. Buy $5 tickets in advance by calling (858) 273-2739, or purchase them online at www.karlstrauss.com. Artwave La Jolla: Attend a family-friendly kick-off event, hosted by the Birch Aquarium at Scripps. The event features educational activities for kids, live theatrical and musical performances, and food samples, and takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event signals the beginning of Artwave La Jolla, a two-month arts and cultural festival that takes place in October and November, and features world-class performances and exhibits, as well as fine dining and accommodations. Girl love, boys on the side: “Family Values, Girl Love, Boys on the Side” is a double feature program addressing queer parenthood, marriage and the complexities of love. It includes the documentary about lesbian families entitled Creating a Place at the Table and the Canadian comedy television series pilot episode of “Floored by Love,” which is launching this fall. MirrorMask: This film is a cross between Labyrinth and Alice in Wonderland, but entirely original. Helena is a 15-year-old girl in a family of circus entertainers, and often wishes she could run off and join real life. After a fight with her parents, her mother falls dangerously ill and Helena is convinced she is to blame. She dreams she is in a strange, doomed land with opposing queens, bizarre creatures and masked inhabitants, and only she can restore the balance by finding the MirrorMask. Green Day/Jimmy Eat World: Two thriving rock bands in one night – it doesn’t get any better than that. Green Day continues to dominate the airwaves with their multi-platinum hit album American Idiot. Seal: The British crooner takes the stage at Viejas Concerts in the Park. Seal broke onto the music scene in 1991 with hits like “Crazy” and 1994’s “Kiss From a Rose.” He released a double-disc best-of album last year. The show is at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $90. SAGE anniversary dinner: Seniors Active in a Gay Environment (SAGE) will hold its 25th anniversary dinner at Top of the Park, beginning with no-host cocktails from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner from Ranch Catering. Siren: The open mic for women is held at Korova Coffee Bar from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month. Sign-ups begin at 7:30 p.m. The free event is dedicated to inspiring women via the expression of the creative arts, highlighting spoken word, hip-hop, comedy, music and activism.
