Music at Current Affairs: Tonight R.I.S.E. welcomes Peggy Watson as part of the Rhythm & R.I.S.E. Friday night music series. Watson’s music has been described as contemporary folk with pop and jazz influences. The music starts at 8:00 p.m. at Current Affairs Bookstore, 2536 University Ave. in North Park. Portraits of Pride: Come view a collection of more than a dozen photographs of Pride celebrations taken by Oreste Prada in a number of cities throughout the U.S., including San Diego. The opening reception for the Portraits of Pride exhibit is tonight from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Claire de Lune Coffee Lounge, 2906 University Ave., North Park. The photographs will be on display until Aug. 7.

Fritz Blitz: 2003 marks the 10th anniversary of the Fritz Theatre’s annual summer feast of new plays. Sifting through more than 200 submissions, the Fritz Blitz crew narrowed it down to just 10 plays. More than 50 local actors, directors and designers will participate in the festival of new plays, which continues through July 27 at Lyceum Theatre, 79 Horton Plaza, downtown. Breakfast with Shamu: SeaWorld educators will host a breakfast with Shamu with reserved tables surrounding Shamu’s private pool. You’ll see killer whales and have a chance to take up-close photographs. With a keen eye you might spot SeaWorld’s two killer whale calves recently born at the park. The all-you-can-eat breakfast begins at 8:45 a.m. Park admission is not included and is required to attend breakfast. This program runs daily through the end of August. Music in the park: The Hillcrest Wind Ensemble will perform today from 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park. The public is invited to attend this free concert. Hillcrest Wind Ensemble, a 30-piece band, is a program of The Center. The evening’s line-up features toe-tapping eclectic pieces, show tunes, a timely patriotic medley, marches and popular selections from The Sound of Music and The King and I. Don’t miss this: Me’shell Ndegeocello will rock your funky soul, tonight at 8:30 p.m. at the Belly Up Tavern, 143 S. Cedros Ave., Solana Beach. Her debut album, Plantation Lullabies, earned three Grammy nominations.
