The So Cal Scorpions blanked the Los Angeles Amazons 35-0 last Saturday to secure their playoff spot and win the Western Division Champion title in the nationwide Women’s Professional Football League (WPFL). The divisional win marked a historic first in the franchise’s history.

The Scorpions overall record stands at 8-1, good for second place in the American Conference. Their defense has been stellar all season, posting six shutout wins and not allowing any points in their last four games. This exceptional season has been a turnaround from last year, when the Scorpions barely got a win with a dismal 1-9 campaign.

The only team in the WPFL with a perfect record is the Dallas Diamonds, who hold a 9-0 record in the American Conference. The Los Angeles Amazons have only lost to the Scorpions and fell to third place after their loss with a 6-2 record.

“The veteran players worked very hard in the off season, and clicked with the new rookies,” said Ann Bagala, Scorpions team owner. “This team is very talented, but they take nothing they have done this far for granted.”

The Scorpions will travel to Los Angeles next week to complete the regular season. The first round of the playoffs is set for Oct. 29.
