Delaware North Companies’ Plaza del Pasado celebrates California’s golden age with one-of-a-kind shops, traditional restaurants and live musicians, creating a must-see cultural atmosphere. On June 10, eight of the retail concepts at the plaza opened after a quick “sprucing up.”
The eight retail stores are uniquely different from each other and from other stores in the vicinity. Arts and crafts from Mexico, Peru and other South American countries can be found in abundance. The merchandise selection was derived from knowledge of the goods and services that were traded in San Diego between 1821 and 1872. At that time in history, goods arrived by ship, train or wagon. Assortment in the stores includes jewelry, clothing, fashion accessories, home and garden décor, books, folkloric arts and crafts, and mementos. La Panaderia opened in September, and serves Mexican pastries and cookies, churros, Mexican fruit drinks and other refreshments.
Delaware North Companies’ 30,000 employees worldwide make a difference through community support, employee volunteerism, cause support, product philanthropy, scholarships and non-profit support. In the past five years, Delaware North Companies and its businesses have collectively raised and donated more than $25 million to the communities, organizations and causes they support, which include the Special Olympics, United Way, Boys and Girls Clubs and other youth and community groups. Their core focus is on basic human needs, the environment, sports philanthropies and education.
