Shopgirl
Mirabelle (Claire Danes) works the glove counter at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills, selling things nobody buys. She keeps to herself, but when rich, handsome, 50-something Ray (Steve Martin) sweeps her off her feet, she revels in the attention and quickly falls in love. Then Mirabelle meets Jeremy (Jason Schwartzman), a young struggling musician, and has decisions to make.
The Squid and the Whale
In 1986 Brooklyn, Walt Berkman is coming of age in his chaotic home. His father (Jeff Daniels), a once-successful novelist, and his mother (Laura Linney) have taken lovers and are rapidly heading for divorce. Walt and his younger brother grapple with what has become of their family.
Prime
Rafi (Uma Thurman) is a recently divorced 37-year-old career woman from Manhattan, and Dave is a talented 23-year-old painter from Brooklyn who falls in love with her. Part counselor, part Jewish mother, Rafi’s therapist, Lisa (Meryl Streep), is helping her deal with a post-divorce slump. When Lisa accidentally discovers Rafi’s new boyfriend is her son, Dave, she finds it increasingly difficult to be a good therapist while hearing intimate details of her son’s love life.
