Tom Reise opened Indulgence Bakery with co-owner Fritz Klein, a type 2 diabetic, over a year ago. The idea originated because friends enjoyed the sugar-free desserts Reise prepared for Klein – their friends couldn’t believe the desserts were made with healthy ingredients and were sugar-free. Reise recognized the tremendous growth of diabetes and obesity in the U.S. and saw few establishments in San Diego catering to that clientele. That was enough motivation to open Indulgence Bakery and offer delicious options to replace the traditional unhealthy choices, he said.
Indulgence Bakery is one of the few places in San Diego committed to offering its customers an assortment of sugar-free and low-carbohydrate options, which range from breakfast, lunch and dinner to a tempting collection of baked goods; all of which are prepared on premises.
Reise has been a volunteer for Greyhound Pets of America for the last 10 years and has adopted or fostered six greyhounds during that time. Additionally, he speaks to a diverse collection of organizations about nutrition and diabetes, including the County of San Diego, the Nutritional Network and SDG&E.
