GSDBA makes second contribution to John McCusker Education Fund
The Greater San Diego Business Association (GSDBA) contributed $5,270 to the John R. McCusker, Jr. Education Fund from half the monies raised at the organization’s golf tournament in October. The donation brings the total amount given by the GSDBA to the fund to more than $10,000 since McCusker’s death earlier this year.
The memorial fund was created by family and friends of McCusker through the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation, which disperses the money to GLBT youth education programs.
“The GSDBA has been a wonderful partner in encouraging philanthropy in our community and in recognizing the contributions that John made to nonprofits serving the LGBT community,” Human Dignity Foundation executive director David Pierce said.
Last month’s golf tournament was attended by McCusker’s family members and numerous business owners from the San Diego community. For more information about upcoming GSDBA events, call (619) 296-4543.
Gay Men’s Chorus awarded grant
The Gay Men’s Chorus of San Diego (GMCSD) has announced the receipt of a grant award in the amount of $7,500 from the LGBT Pride Fund managed by the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation.
This grant was awarded on Oct. 9 during the Human Dignity Foundation’s annual boat cruise and will be used for general operating support. The money will enable the Gay Men’s Chorus to enlarge its current membership as well as expand its audience base. These goals will be achieved by increasing the number and variety of venues at which the chorus performs, in addition to an aggressive marketing and advertising campaign that will extend GMCSD’s visibility throughout San Diego County.
“With this financial support from the LGBT Pride Fund, the Gay Men’s Chorus will be able to reach new audiences in parts of the county which are currently underserved, while still maintaining a strong relationship with our loyal supporters in Hillcrest and downtown San Diego,” GMCSD director of development Gabe Selak explained.
The GMCSD is a member of the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA) and is funded in part by grants from the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture as well as the San Diego LGBT Pride Fund managed by the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation. For more information, call (619) 57-GMCSD or visit www.GMCSD.com.
