The Sum of Us: This play by Australian writer David Stevens is about a widower and his gay son navigating through a complex relationship. The play runs at the 6th @ Penn Theatre in Hillcrest until Dec. 22. Film screenings: The School of Theatre, Television, and Film at San Diego State University presents the annual winter screening of new work by film students at 7:00 p.m. in the Don Powell Theatre, located near the front of the campus. Momentum day hike: A hike begins at Torrey Pines at 9:00 a.m. as part of Momentum, a group for gay men around the ages of 25-35 that is based out of Family Health Centers of San Diego’s Gay Men’s Health Program (GMHP) and focuses on health through education, social skills and community building. Holiday Jazz & Blues Festival: Celebrate the season with soulful music, food and fun at the annual Holiday Jazz & Blues Festival, which takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight downtown between Seventh Ave. and Market St. Enjoy holiday food and merchandise and plenty of jazz and blues Christmas music. John Waters: Eccentric filmmaker and actor John Waters is bringing his one-man show, A John Waters Christmas, to the Casbah. Waters uses his acclaimed monologue style, cultural observations, ruminations on the holidays and personal recollections on his career to entertain. Holiday Gospel Dinner: For one night only, House of Blues San Diego will transform the award-winning Gospel Brunch into a roof-raising celebration for the whole family to enjoy.
