Resolution The Party: Kick off New Year’s weekend with Resolution The Party, taking place in the heart of Hillcrest on Fifth Avenue, between Pennsylvania to Robinson streets, from at 7:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Headliners include Sheen Easton, En Vogue, June and Bonnie Pointer (formerly of the Pointer Sisters) and Danielle LoPresti and The Masses. The Dragon Ball: The San Diego Museum of Man celebrates the New Year with international art, culture and sounds with two stages of entertainment. Performances include Urban Tribal Dance Company, Mythologram Theatre, Karsh Kale, Janaka and Robin Roth. DJs include Sean Perry and Dr. Sergio. Six Degrees New Year’s Eve Bash: Doors open at 9:00 p.m. with a $10 cover and a $5 cover for those dressed in formal attire or as a Hollywood star or starlet. Shot specials will be offered throughout the night, and DJ Moody spins. There will also be a balloon drop, giveaways, free hors d’oeuvres and a champagne toast at midnight. Open mic at Lestat’s: Chill in the spacious, chic/goth comfort zone of Lestat’s Coffee House in North Park. Monday is open-mic night from 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. with a sign up at 6:00 p.m. Every night there is live music and an eclectic collection of overstuffed chairs, chaise lounges and Victorian sofas to watch it on. Jazz in the Park: Kick off the New Year with a CD-release concert featuring the new quintet Cannonball-Coltrane Project, led by charismatic Los Angeles bassist Luther Hughes. This group pays tribute to the original, legendary 1959 album of music that Cannonball Adderley called “swingin’, good feelin’ and blusey.” The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at the San Diego Museum of Art’s James S. Thursday Night Thing: Every first Thursday of the month, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego hosts TNT (Thursday Night Thing), an ongoing program in the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s downtown galleries. With everything from slide jams, DJ lessons and poetry readings to live bands, artists’ talks and video projections, TNT’s eclectic events are occasions to interact with the arts and artists in the San Diego area.
