Darryl Cotton, CFO, began Fleet Electrical Co. when he was an electrical contractor in North Park in 1987. The company’s forte, then and now, is the electrical needs of San Diego’s older residential and commercial properties.

“During our many years of providing electrical services, many clients would ask for us to refer other trades such as plumbers, drywall, painters, stucco and carpentry,” Cotton said. “To better service my customers, I expanded my contractors license to incorporate these other disciplines and became Fleet Services.

The mission of Fleet Electrical’s sister company, Fleet Systems, is to provide emergency distribution and generator systems, sales, rentals and service when power quality and reliability is essential to operations. Since its inception in 2000, Fleet Systems’ client list has grown to include some of San Diego’s most uncompromising clients, including Hotel Del Coronado, Viejas, KGTV, Symphony Towers, Motorola, Amvets, KFMB, Handlery Hotels and Scripps. Their rental department has provided vendor and stage power and lighting requirements for major local events such as Christmas on the Prado, Yacht Fest, the Adams Avenue Street Fair, the Julian Blues Bash and the Hooley Fest.

From the smallest to the largest job, Fleet Electrical and Fleet Systems are scrupulous about being on time and giving customers an estimate so they can make informed decisions. A technician is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist customers with their needs.

“I personally hate phone systems that won’t let you talk to real people, voice mail or answering services,” Cotton said. “When you call us during normal business hours you’ll always talk to a knowledgeable person.”

Fleet Electrical is a member of Associated Builders and Contractors and the Western Electrical Contractors Association, and has been a member of the Better Business Bureau since 1994. l
