Sapphic Cinema: The Women’s Resource Center at The Center hosts a film series of works by, for and about lesbian, bisexual, transgender and feminist women on the fourth Friday of every month at 7:00 p.m. This month’s movie is Fire. Late Night Live at the Lyceum: A tribute to Harlem’s famous Apollo Theatre is now playing as part of the 14th annual Kuumba Fest, San Diego’s longest running celebration of African-American expression, culture and heritage. Heritage Day Festival: In recognition of Black History Month, the ninth annual Heritage Day Festival celebrates the diverse heritage of African-Americans and other ethnic groups. Music, handicrafts, health village and family entertainment will be featured. Lucinda Williams: A mix of folk, blues, country and rock, this Grammy-award winning singer songwriter was named America’s Best Songwriter by Time magazine in 2000. Local jazz: For one solitary winter’s night, the Athenaeum will host a summit of two of San Diego’s top jazz guitarists, Mundell Lowe and Peter Sprague, along with two other local legends, bassist Bob Magnusson and drummer Jim Plank. The Vagina Monologues: The Moxie Theatre Company presents Eve Ensler’s world-famous play in a one-night performance at the La Paloma Theatre in Encinitas. Hillcrest Mardi Gras: The fifth annual celebration takes place, rain or shine, on University Avenue between First and Fourth avenues. Jazz in the Park: On the first Wednesday of each month, the San Diego Museum of Art presents regional jazz and blues musicians in an early concert at Copley Auditorium. This month, jazz standards from the Great American Songbook will be performed by New York musicians, pianist Bill Mays and trumpeter Marvin Stamm. The Times They Are A-Changin’: Bob Dylan teams with Tony Award-winning choreographer Twyla Tharp to create a musical event crafted around some of Dylan’s greatest hits as well as rarely-heard wonders. Cheese, wine and jazz: Join the San Diego Wine & Culinary Center for live jazz and an ever-changing selection of wines, cheeses and cocktails. Wines from the Mission Hill Winery in British Columbia, Canada, will be featured this week. Featured wines are available as a complete flight for $7, by the half-glass for $3.50-$5 or whole glasses for $6-$10. Cheese boards showcase some of the finest domestic and imported cheeses available.
