Family fundamentals: OutFest San Diego and San Diego PFLAG will host a free screening of the P.O.V. film Family Fundamentals at 2:00 Sunday, Aug. 10, at the Central Library, 820 E St., downtown. Family Fundamentals goes to the heart of today’s debate over homosexuality — even the most liberal families may have difficulties when a child comes out. For fundamentalist Christian families it can be devastating. For more information on the film or the screening, call (619) 236-5821.

Bad idea, good play: On a cold, dark night, an English country doctor brings an unconscious woman into his home. He tells his wife that he found her lying by the side of the road. As the truth about the woman slowly emerges, the relationships among this unlikely triangle are tested. The countryside is not as peaceful as it seems. Country runs through Aug. 31 at La Jolla Playhouse, 2910 La Jolla Village Dr. See it tonight at 8:00 p.m. For more information, call (858) 550-1010.
Mamma Mia!: A mother, a daughter, three possible fathers and a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget. A mother confronts her past as three men return to the Greek island they haven’t visited for 21 years, just as her 20-year-old daughter is about to be married — all to the sound of classic ABBA tunes. Mamma Mia is showing at the Civic Center Theatre, 202 C St., downtown. For more information, call (619) 570-1100.
