Journeys: The Butterworth Dance Company (BDC) introduces three premieres. Pulse is a quartet of sensual movements pulsating with exotic fluidity and high-energy pop set to the music of Govinda. All the Things You Are is a fun, light piece set to the soulful voice of Ella Fitzgerald from her collection of song books. The Other Side is BDC’s first community centered dance work. The show opens at 7:00 p.m. at the Lyceum Space Theatre. The opening performance will be followed by a reception. A second evening performance will take place on Saturday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. followed by a matinee performance on Sunday, March 5 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 to $20. Pisces party: Laura Jane’s annual party at Six Degrees features RunHoney. The party begins at 7:00 p.m. with RunHoney taking the stage at 8:00 p.m. Fish will abound along with specials for those born under the sign of the fish. Jay Bolotin: Featured musician and visual artist Jay Bolotin performs a free live concert followed by a special screening of his woodcut motion picture, The Jackleg Testament, at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. Party for Progressives: Activist San Diego hosts their fourth annual party with special guest Cindy Sheehan. The emcee is KLSD radio’s John Elliot. Music will be performed by Liquid Blue, voted America’s best dance band at the National Music Awards. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Spring film series: Women Make Movies and PBS Independent Lens presents Maid in America, a film by Anayansi Prado as part of the San Diego Women Film Foundation spring film series, which takes place the second Wednesday of every month at the San Diego Library Theater. Maid in America takes an intimate look at the lives of three Latina immigrants working as nannies and housekeepers in Los Angeles. There will be a reception from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. with complimentary food and beer. The film begins at 6:30 p.m. A discussion follows with the filmmaker. Suggested donation is $10. Derby Dolls: Dust off your bell bottoms and grab your roller skates for a night of skating with San Diego’s new all-female roller derby league. My Fair Lady: Cygnet Theatre Company presents this play, based on the stage play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, in a story of a cockney flower-girl who is transformed into a lady. The play runs March 4 through April 23. Tickets are $25-$29.
