Lunafest: The Center’s Women Resource Center hosts its second annual women’s film festival. A pre-festival dessert reception begins at 6:00 p.m., and film screenings begin at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person (including dessert reception and screenings) or $10 to attend the screenings only. Tickets will be sold at the door, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit The Breast Cancer Fund, as well as The Center’s Women’s Resource Center. San Diego Latino Film Festival: The Media Arts Center San Diego presents this festival in its 13th year, which celebrates films and videos by Latinos and/or the Latino experience, screening over 100 works from across Latin America and throughout the U.S. The festival continues until March 19 at UltraStar’s Mission Valley cinemas. St. Patrick’s Day Parade: The 26th annual parade begins at 11:00 a.m. at Sixth Avenue and Juniper Street, winds along Fifth Avenue and Upas Street and then back to Sixth Avenue, where it wanders down to Laurel Street and ends in Balboa Park. A festival featuring Irish dancers, arts and crafts, beer and music will take place after the parade in the park. (858) 268-9111.
Club Fashion Whore: Hosted by May*Star, this discotheque and fashion show occurs every second and fourth Saturday at the San Diego Sports Club from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The event features fashionable go-go boys and girls, costume contests and prizes, along with midnight shopping. DJs spin a variety of electroclash, indietronic, shoegaze, indie dance rock, Brit pop, electro punk, synth pop, mod, new wave, ’80s, dark wave and more. Admission is $5. West of the 5: La Jolla Playhouse presents the story of a young boy who moves from San Diego’s Barrio Logan to the other side of I-5 and comes to understand what it means to miss home and to make a new one. Performances take place at 12:30 and 3:00 p.m. at La Jolla Playhouse’s Play Development Center. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 14 and under. Ronda Nocturna: The San Diego Latino Film Festival, in collaboration with FilmOut San Diego, presents this Argentinean film, set on the night of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). For teen hustler Victor, it proves to be a night of perilous adventure as he weaves in and out of the lives of cops, johns and rent boys in Buenos Aires. Jazz concert: The Jazz Association of Greater San Diego (JAG) presents a concert featuring The Chicago Five in the Handlery Hotel and Resort’s Crystal Ballroom. The concert begins at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for members, $12 for non-members and $5 for students. Proceeds will benefit JAG’s ongoing Music in Schools program. Free admission Tuesdays: Several museums in Balboa Park waive their admission fee on Tuesdays. On the second Tuesday of the month, those museums are the Museum of Photographic Arts, the San Diego History Museum and the Veterans Museum and Memorial Center. The Timken Museum of Art is always free. A Body of Water: The Old Globe Theatre presents this play about a man and a woman who awake in an unfamiliar house atop a mountain surrounded by water. Nothing but the air is clear. To make matters worse, they have absolutely no memory of who they are or how they got there. Tickets are $37 to $56. The play runs until March 19. The Old Globe Theatre is located in Balboa Park. Levi Kreis and Eric Himan: Gay.com and PlanetOut’s “Rock Out’s Knock Out Tour” at Twiggs features two openly gay singer-songwriters. Kreis is touring to support his new album One of the Ones. His song “I Should Go” can be heard on “Days of Our Lives.” Hear Kreis’ captivating piano-playing and heartfelt lyrics. Himan adds his own unique blend of folk, pop and rock to the mix.
