Jim Bracken: In remembrance
Published Thursday, 16-Mar-2006 in issue 951
Jim Bracken, a player for the San Diego Armada Rugby Football Club, died of a massive heart attack on Monday, March 6.
According to a San Diego County medical examiner’s report and witnesses, Bracken complained of leg numbness and back pain while working out at Frog’s Fitness in Mission Valley before paramedics were called to the scene. Bracken was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest where he passed away. He was 44.
Bracken had been involved with the Armada since its inception, and was always a team player who was willing to lend a helping hand, his teammates said.
“He had great heart, both on and off the pitch,” friend and teammate Billy Nordmeier said. “His enthusiasm to learn was amazing, and he never gave up.”
Marcos Lopez, another friend and teammate, said: “Jim was a great guy, friendly and dedicated – always willing to help a friend in need. He will be missed.”
