Baja Betty’s Bang begins season undefeated
Published Thursday, 30-Mar-2006 in issue 953
Baja Betty’s Bang, America’s Finest City Softball League’s only current A Division team, came away with another two victories on Sunday, March 26, to improve their record to 4-0.
With only 10 players in action, Baja Betty’s scored runs when needed and defended against any advances by The Loft and Pecs IM.
Despite inconsistent hitting, Baja Betty’s came through with a 7-4 victory against The Loft, which wanted revenge after a close opening-season loss.
“We didn’t hit like we can, but we scored runs when we had to and played a stellar defense, led by Ray ‘Peanut’ Diaz, and great pitching by Cookie Salas,” said Baja Betty’s coach Tom Mullen.
Against Pecs IM, who scored four runs in the first inning, Baja Betty’s came back with a 12-8 demolition job. Both games were come-from-behind victories.
“Our team was thrown in the A Division because of a mere one player over-rating, but, honestly, we have a strong foundation as a B Division team and will represent San Diego well if continued to play in the B Division, nationwide,” Mullen said. “We hit when we needed to, we played awesome defense, and I have at least two great pitchers in my rotation.”
Baja Betty’s plays this Sunday in Poway against Hamburger Mary’s and Team Conspiracy.
