Family Health Centers of San Diego’s Project S.T.A.R. (Supporting Transgender Access to Resources) will host the third annual Transgender Day of Empowerment on Friday, April 7, at 6:00 p.m. at The Center.

This event is designed to bring together both the transgender and allied communities in an effort to foster increased support, respect and empowerment within San Diego. The event is co-sponsored by the Transgender Community Coalition and The Center.

The Transgender Day of Empowerment will feature two keynote speakers, City Commissioner Julia Legaspi and Masen Davis. Legaspi is a city commissioner with the local Human Relations Commission of San Diego. Davis is founder and board president of the FTM Alliance of Los Angeles, a community-based organization formed to empower the female-to-male (FTM) transgender community.

The Transgender Day of Empowerment event will also include musical entertainment, presentations of several community service awards, a resource table providing information on services available to the transgender community of San Diego and findings from the recent San Diego Transgender Needs Assessment, released in 2006.

Project S.T.A.R. is a community-based outreach, education and health services program of Family Health Centers of San Diego. It is funded by the California Endowment and targets both transgender-identifying persons in San Diego and health and social service providers who may provide services to transgender persons.
