Front Runners & Walkers San Diego has a full range of activities scheduled for the spring and summer. The activities range from fun runs/walks to casual dinners at Hillcrest area hotspots.

The group holds its regular weekly fun run/walk every Saturday at 8:00 a.m. at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Laurel Street. Newcomers are always welcome. The club is open to runners and walkers of all skills and abilities. A special outreach effort is underway to recruit additional women as club members.

The group also sponsors regular weekly 3-mile and 5.5 mile run/walks on Monday and Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Laurel Street, and longer runs on selected Sundays. The club has more than 200 active members, of which approximately 33 percent are women.

“Front Runners San Diego is launching a series of events leading up to the 25th anniversary of the club, later this year,” said Carol Pierce and Manny Briseno, current co-chairs. “On June 4, the club will be sponsoring a water station at the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon in San Diego.”

Front Runners & Walkers will also participate in the annual Camp Pendleton Mud Run on June 10.

On July 29, Pride weekend, the club will conduct its 25th annual “Run and Walk with Pride” in Balboa Park. The 5K-sanctioned event draws larger crowds and more participants each year.

Front Runners & Walkers is one of the oldest continuously active GLBT organizations in San Diego. The organization was launched as a special interest group of the Gay Academic Union and shortly thereafter became an independent organization.
