Flowers After Hours: As part of Art Alive, San Diego Museum of Art’s annual springtime festival of art and flowers, a special after-hours viewing reception with cocktails takes place from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The event features a no-host bar, music and a chance to view the floral arrangements in the galleries. Admission is $10 to $12. The exhibit runs on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The SDMA is located in Balboa Park. (619) 232-7931.
Sapphic Cinema: The Women’s Resource Center at The Center hosts a film series of works by, for and about lesbian, bisexual, transgender and feminist women on the fourth Friday of every month at 7:00 p.m. All movie nights are free and open to the public. ArtWalk: The 22nd annual festival takes place in downtown’s hip and historic Little Italy neighborhood and features over 350 artists. This free event is the largest open-air gallery in the region, and showcases some of the finest painting, sculpture, photography, music, drama and dance created by local, national and international artists. ArtWalk take place Saturday, April 29, and Sunday, April 30, from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. (619) 615-1090.
International Digital Exhibition: The San Diego Art Institute’s Museum of the Living Artist features this first-ever exhibition from April 29 to June 11 at the House of Charm in Balboa Park. The exhibition focuses on the dynamic developments in digital art as well as the connection between technology and fine art. A gala reception takes place from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. to honor the artists. Stormy Weather: A collaboration between local actor/vocalist Angelo D’Agostino and accompanist/musical director G. Scott Lacy, the show combines the blustery torch songs of days past with more contemporary blues and soul, along with a few surprises. Tickets are $23.50. Hillcrest Wind Ensemble: The group presents their “Spring Classics” concert at The Center, located at 3909 Centre St. in Hillcrest, at 7:30 p.m. The full wind ensemble will play pieces originally for orchestra, such as the last movement of Dvorak’s “Ninth New World Symphony,” “Festive Overture” by Shostakovich, and Bernstein’s “Candide Suite.” Tickets are $10. Rose show and fair: The annual event features hundreds of beautiful cut roses and creative rose arrangements. Consultants will be on hand to answer rose-growing questions. The fair features selections of miniature rose plants for sale, garden and rose products and merchandise, and takes place at Murphy’s Pub at Qualcomm Stadium. Free parking is located in Section G1. Hillcrest Farmers Market: Shop for local produce, artisan wares and other delicacies at Hillcrest Farmers Market, held every Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the DMV parking lot on Normal Street. Julie Warren art exhibition: As part of its 20th anniversary year celebration, Diversionary Theatre will present prints and paintings by artist Julie Warren. Sue Palmer will also perform. That thing: San Diego’s Museum of Contemporary Art hosts TNT (Thursday Night Thing) the first Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at their downtown location, 1001 Kettner Blvd. The ongoing program features film and video in the galleries and live local music on the outdoor plaza.
