1000 Beds: From a gay teen’s head-on collision with life in a sleazy hotel across the street from the Hollywood Bowl to an ecstatic vision of a sex-positive future on a mattress in a police holding cell after a freedom-of-expression civil disobedience action, performance artist Tim Miller’s show is a fiercely funny and inspiring story about the transformative power of art and the richness of gay identity lived out loud. The show plays at The Real Theater at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for dinner and the show are $29, $25 senior/student; performance only $20, $15 senior/student. The Real Theater is located at 116 W. Art Around Adams: View a collection of arts-oriented events hosted by local businesses and residents who open up their spaces for an evening of performance art (including live music, dance and theater) and gallery-style exhibitions of mixed-media art by local and international artists. The free event takes place from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Mini shuttle transportation between venues is provided by event sponsors along Adams Avenue between Biona Drive in Kensington and 30th Street in Normal Heights. MozartFest: In celebration of Mozart’s 250th birthday, a free, all-day event in downtown San Diego near the County Administration Building and in Little Italy takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be Mozart-themed performances by Jean Isaacs’ San Diego Dance Theater, Malashock Dance, the California Ballet, the San Diego Ballet, Icarus Puppet Company, Westwind Brass and San Diego Small Opera. International Village Celebration: The City Heights Community Development Corporation presents this free, non-alcohol, all-day street festival, which has four outdoor stages offering attendees the opportunity to “travel around the world in a single day” with a single stop in City Heights. Zhivago: La Jolla Playhouse presents this musical as part of their Out & About series. From the chaos of war and revolution comes one of the greatest love stories of a generation. With Russia on the verge of revolution, Doctor Yurii Zhivago is torn between the world to which he is bound and Lara, the love of his life. The show is co-hosted by KPBS Gays and Lesbians for Public Broadcasting. Tickets are $62. Coronado Summer Concert Series: The Tokeli Jazz Ensemble will perform originals and standards at this free outdoor concert series on Sundays in Coronado until September. Attendees are encouraged to come early to find space in the park, bring a picnic meal and blankets/chairs. Thread: San Diego’s premiere fashion and lifestyle event hits Balboa Park with more than 100 emerging fashion designers. The event features runway shows, an art show, DJs, a martini bar and much more. Retail buyers can pick up the hottest new lines. Keyboard Conversations: As part of the San Diego Jewish Arts Festival, internationally renowned pianist Jeffrey Siegel will explore the thematic and historical relationship of Mozart and Jewish music and composers.
