“Shame on Pride for buying into her political games.”

Dear Editor:

The whole point of the Sex Offender Registration program is to keep law enforcement informed where an offender lives. The sex offender website says as much. Not to decide who can and can’t volunteer for charitable events, causes or worse to kowtow to District Attorney Dumanis who may or may deign to appear in a Pride parade if a registrant is anywhere nearby.

The vast majority of registrants are not child rapists or murderers or predators for that matter. Registration casts a very wide net over a great many people. Only the most violent or outrageous cases makes the talk shows, news reports and DA’s press conferences. If you are a District Attorney with major political aspirations they certainly make a convenient scapegoat. Shame on Pride for buying into her political games.

Congratulations to our LGBTQI community, San Diego Pride Organization and our LGBTQI Youth for coming together and creating a new Youth policy that will empower, educate and provide a safe environment for our LGBTQI Youth at this year’s San Diego LGBT Pride Festival Celebration. Thank You Jeri Dilno, (my personal hero!) and the rest of the Pride Board and Staff for doing the research and outreach work it took to come to this new and much improved Youth Policy. Having the new added component this year of a Youth Welcoming Committee and Orientation tent at the front gate where LGBTQI Youth can receive a FREE ticket to the festival, ‘goodie bag’ and refreshments, information about our community resources, safe spaces within the Festival and sign the LGBT Pride Pledge is a brilliant working solution created by the diverse components that is our Queer Tribe!

We must honor all of the young people involved in this process, those who created the Youth Policy Petition, Webblog, met with the Pride Board and who took a strong stand in creating the needed changes within the LGBT Pride Organization Youth policy; Alex, Margot, Emily, Lisa, Sara, Willow, Ben, Eric, all the other LGBTQI Youth and Ren Perry and the Youth from The LGBTQI Teen Center. You are our young LGBTQI Leaders of today, reminiscent of our ancestors in The New York Stonewall Riots, the disenfranchised, Drag Queens, Bull Dykes, People Of Color, YOUNG LGBTQI STREET KIDS. It was LGBTQI Youth who threw the first rock, high heel and bottle at the police who were abusing us. Our Youth fought back and started The Stonewall Riots. You are our modern day heroes in the ongoing LGBTQI FIGHT FOR FREEDOM AND EQUALITY. Thank you!

Our LGBTQI Youth can now continue to enjoy parts of the general festival that are important to experience in the complete Pride Celebration that is our diverse LGBTQI Community; the Main Stage with crowds of people cheering, our culture, music and entertainment, Health and STD testing, the new Women’s area, Art exhibits, organization and vender booths, the Commitment Ceremony on Sunday, LGBT Pride History Exhibit, Country Western area. We also honor the hard working organizers of the Pride Youth Xone, who do an exceptional job protecting our youth while honoring an independent spirit, supporting Youth needs and encouraging creativity and growth.

WE together, Our diverse LGBTQI Community should feel proud a solution was created through communication, that will have everyone feeling safe and empowered at Our San Diego 2006 LGBT Pride Festival and during the whole Pride celebration!

’United We Stand, Divided We Fall.’

Together, we will show those that wish to destroy us - they will fail!

Dear Editor:

I would like to know if you went to Tijuana to investigate what these people said on your article. Unfortunately they said a bunch of lies because i can’t find a place down there where i can be with my travesti friends or my homosexual friends without being molested and arrested by the Municipal Police or the Police from the different agencies in the county. I would be happy if you and your investigation team go to Tijuana or anocher city in Mexico the real country, to veryfy how sad is the homofobia against the GLBT community. I think they had forgotten the struggle that they suffered down there in their natal towns.

“It is incorrect to place all white people (Caucasians) in the ‘Anglo’ category.”

Dear Editor:

Hello. I just wanted to make a comment about the discription you made of the diverse ethnicities of the GLTB community in the second paragraph.

It is incorrect to place all white people (Caucasians) in the “Anglo” category. It is a mistake often made especially in our country.

Anglo Saxon means people of or descending of the English race.

Many of us in the GBTL community descend from continental Europeans. I myself am Italian American. There are Greek Americans, Portuguese Americans, French, Polish, Russians, etc. We would never consider ourselves Anglos.

I believe the proper discription would be people of European descent or Caucasians to include all of us properly.
