Fossil Mysteries exhibit: From dinosaurs to mammoths, discover the rich fossil history of our region at the latest exhibit at the San Diego Natural History Museum. Traveling through a 75-million-year timeline, from the age of dinosaurs to the Ice Age, experience an unfolding of the prehistory of Southern California and Baja. The San Diego Natural History Museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Non-member admission is $11, $9 for seniors and $7 for military and youth/students. Red Hot Independence Women’s Night Club: The Women’s Resource Center will host their next quarterly dance event from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at The Center. The event will feature music mixed by DJ Sandra Ware, door prizes, and a chocolate fountain and goodie bar. La Jolla Concerts by the Sea: Pig out on hot dogs, drinks and ice cream at the popular seaside venue that’s just down the hill from downtown La Jolla. Amadeus: Court composer Antonio Salieri is haunted by one question: Why would God gift that scandalous, crude boy Mozart with such divine musical ability while only giving him – a devout, respected gentleman – such mediocre ability? Lamb’s Players Theatre presents Peter Shaffer’s thrilling play. Performances run though July 23. Showtimes are Tuesdays through Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., with matinees Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Tickets range from $34 to $44. Coronado Parade and fireworks: The festivities begin with a two-hour parade down Orange Avenue that starts at 10:00 a.m. There will be an array of other outdoor events, including an art fair in Spreckels Park and an afternoon concert by West Coast Iron Works. Arrive early enough to avoid the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge backups and island gridlock just before the 9:00 p.m. fireworks over Glorietta Bay. (619) 437-8068.
Big Bay fireworks: Three floating barges located off Shelter Island, Harbor Island and the North Embarcadero area launch fireworks for 20 minutes, with pyrotechnics enhanced by music from 94.1 FM. The display is best seen from the areas surrounding North San Diego Bay; grassy spots for picnics can be found on Shelter and Harbor Island. Arrive early to claim your spot as parking is limited. The Sky Tonight: On the first Wednesday of every month, the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center planetarium presents “The Sky Tonight” at 7:00 p.m. The show is geared toward backyard astronomers, children and anyone who wants to impress their date while stargazing. There will be free telescope viewing after the show, hosted by the San Diego Astronomy Association, weather permitting. Tickets are $6.75 for adults and $5.50 for children. (619) 238-1233.
Jewel and Rob Thomas: The two singer/songwriters co-headline at Embarcadero Marina Park South as part of the Viejas Concerts at Bayside series. Listen to old hits from Jewel like “You Were Meant for Me” and songs from her latest album, Goodbye Alice in Wonderland. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $45 to $60. Greg Louganis book signing: The four-time Olympic gold-medal diving champion will hold a book signing for his newly released autobiography, Breaking the Surface, at 7:00 p.m. at Claire de Lune. This is a new edition of his 1995 New York Times number-one best-selling autobiography. His triumph at the 1988 Olympics came several months after he tested positive for HIV. That thing: San Diego’s Museum of Contemporary Art hosts TNT (Thursday Night Thing) the first Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at their downtown location, 1001 Kettner Blvd. The ongoing program features film and video in the galleries and live local music on the outdoor plaza.
