San Diego Men’s Chorus to hold fund-raiser at Hamburger Mary’s
The members of the San Diego Men’s Chorus (SDMC) will serenade patrons waiting to enter the popular Sunday night dance party Detour at Hamburger Mary’s in Hillcrest on Sunday, July 16, as part of an evening of events designed to help raise money for several upcoming projects, including its performance aboard the RSVP Cruise to the Mexican Riviera in October.
Chris Shaw and the staff of Hamburger Mary’s will donate 100 percent of the Detour cover charge to the SDMC, and Sidney Frank will co-sponsor the event, with a donation of spirits that will be sold and served by singers from SDMC.
The evening will also include raffle prizes and free giveaways from Jägermeister and the SDMC.
“Hamburger Mary’s has a long history of giving back to the community, and the staff has been extremely generous in helping the chorus raise money this season,” said SDMC artistic director Jerry Foust. “Not only is this event an opportunity for us to raise funds for our trip, but it is a good opportunity for the community to see us in a less formal setting, to meet some of our 60 singers and have some fun at the same time. We also applaud the folks at Sidney Frank for stepping up to support our endeavors.”
The SDMC is San Diego’s oldest and largest GLBT choral ensemble. Since 1985, the chorus, a member of the international Gay & Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA), has been an integral part of the San Diego gay community.
