Gay Men’s Chorus San Diego summer concerts
The Gay Men’s Chorus of San Diego (GMCSD) will perform two summer concerts bringing together traditional Americana and French romance.
Entitled “An American in Paris,” the pair of concerts will take place at the First Unitarian Universalist Church in Hillcrest on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 5-6.
“Since returning last year to serve again as GMCSD’s conductor, I have brought our audiences a great deal of the fun, popular, and ‘campy’ music that the chorus loves to perform,” artistic director Gary Holt said.
“But the Gay Men’s Chorus also strives for diversity and balance in our programming,” he continued. “…GMCSD has an obligation to sing new music, old music, classical music and – as always – great music.”
Performances of “An American in Paris” will take place Saturday, Aug. 5, at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 6, at 7:00 p.m.
The First Unitarian Universalist Church is located at 4190 Front St. in Hillcrest. General admission is $25 with discounts for students, seniors, military and groups. Tickets are available from any GMCSD member, at Obelisk the Bookstore and also on the chorus’ Web site, www.gmcsd.com.
Pacto Latino will be hosting dinner to celebrate 15 years of service
Pacto Latino will host a dinner to celebrate 15 years of service on Thursday, July 20, at the Bamboo Lounge, located at 1475 University Ave. The dinner takes place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and a $50 donation is suggested.
Since 1991, Pacto Latino has provided housing and skill building services to individuals with HIV and AIDS. The agency has kept a low profile to protect the confidentiality of its residents in its two homes in North Park and Bankers Hill. Despite a Latino focus, the agency welcomes everyone.
“Despite its low profile, Pacto has a great reputation,” said Carolina Ramos, Latino Services coordinator for The Center. “Its transitional homes have really impacted the community and helped the clients get on their feet and become productive members of the community.”
Pacto Latino serves the community primarily through its transitional housing program. This program prevents homelessness of HIV infected clients and lets them stabilize their lives. Pacto arranges housing and placement for families with an HIV infected member as well.
For more information about Pacto Latino, visit www.pactolatino.com or to RSVP for the dinner call (619) 795-0946.
