Daniel White has been working with contractors in designing condo conversions.

“I started out helping a friend do his first condo conversion,” White said. “From there, other developers have hired me and, since then, it has been nonstop.”

From designing the exterior of the building to the last detail inside, White manages all phases of condo conversions.

He said he is most proud of his latest project, Las Palmas Condos. Located at 3958 Iowa St. in North Park, the condos are a charming Spanish style villa with only seven units.

“I continually get compliments on this project,” he said. “Several people have commented that the building looks like new construction. That’s the best compliment I could ever receive.” Pictures of Las Palmas Condos can be viewed online at www.iowastreetcondos.com.

White orders everything for the job – such as cabinets, sinks, carpet, lights, etc. – and schedules it for onsite delivery when the contractors need it, at no markup to the client. “This saves the clients thousands of dollars by avoiding the contractor’s markup,” he said.

White grew up in Louisiana and Texas, and has lived in San Diego for the last 15 years. “I bought my first home in 1996 for $80,000. I’ve since bought and sold several more condos and homes, which has led me to my current position,” he said. “I really enjoy my work and feel fortunate to be able to make my living this way.”

Most of White’s work has been in the North Park and Hillcrest area. In 1999, his proposal to the city to redevelop the North Park Theater was one of the final two being considered. Although he didn’t get the contract, he said he is “very proud” of the smaller projects he’s worked on to help beautify the community. He was recently awarded the Condo Conversion of the Year award from the Normal Heights Business Association.
