Summer in the Park concerts: The University Heights Community Development Corporation hosts the final concert in their summer series at Trolley Barn Park on Aug. 18 form 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Bring a picnic and enjoy the music! Local beer night: The Liar’s Club in Mission Beach pulls the best local beer for $2.50 a pint every Friday. Capturing the Orient: Aubergine presents a unique art show with an Asian flair featuring some of San Diego’s best artistic talent. The “Asian: Capturing the Orient” event will include several special cultural performances and will take place from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the restaurant, located at 500 Fourth Ave. in the Gaslamp Quarter. Snorkel with the sharks: Kick off your Saturday morning with an adventure snorkeling with the sharks in the coastline waters off La Jolla Shores. The unique San Diego experience for ages 10 and older is hosted by the Birch Aquarium and takes place from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. Admission is $30 and intermediate swimming ability with previous snorkeling experience is required. Midnight madness: Take a 20-mile bike ride through San Diego’s streets and byways beginning at 12:00 midnight at the County Administration Building (1600 Pacific Coast Hwy.) as part of the 33rd annual Midnight Madness Fun Bicycle Ride The event, which will include a costume contest, entertainment and a bicycle giveaway, takes place from 9:30 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. and is hosted by the Uptown Optimist Club. Gospel brunch at House of Blues: A salute to all things Southern and gospel, Sunday Gospel brunch at the House of Blues is not to be missed. Fresh Ginga: Magpie Gallery and Boutique presents the “Fresh Ginga” trunk show with Ginger Placek from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. San Diego native Placek, whose style grew from the graffiti art lineage of the 1980s, is the founder of 1/8 Fresh Designs, her highly personalized “hot couture” fashion house. Body ornamentation: The Museum of Man’s “Body Ornamentation: Artistic Representations of Self” exhibit focuses on the many different types of body ornamentation in various cultures around the world, presenting the beautiful designs and artwork depicted in body painting, tattooing, scarification and piercing. Othello: This much-loved Shakespeare classic tells the tragic tale of a love destroyed by jealousy. Deception and betrayal, honor and love – what more could you want in a Wednesday night? Viva Las Vegas: Catch the finale of the San Diego Museum of Art’s Screen on the Green annual outdoor film series with Viva Las Vegas (1956). The King is alive and well and living in Las Vegas as an aspiring race car driver who needs money to compete in the upcoming Grand Prix. Along the way, he meets and romances the swimming pool manager (played by Ann-Margret) singing his way to her heart and ours. The movie screens on the museum’s east lawn in Balboa Park.
