Hey, Bourbon Street made history this past weekend with the first-ever national gay bar TV ad campaign on Bravo. Their first ad ran during “Boy Meets Boy” and “Queer Eye.” … The ads will also air on local ABC affiliate KGTV Channel 10, so be on the lookout for these hot ads and “bravo” to Tom, Bob, John and all the gang at Bourbon Street.
We must support Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante
Yes, we should all vote NO on the recall, but thank God Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante’s name will be on the ballot, along with dozens of conservative Republicans…. Cruz Bustamante has become our hope and safety net in case Gov. Davis is recalled. Bustamante has a long record of supporting GLBT civil rights, even when he was speaker of the State Assembly…. A recent NBC/New York Times poll even stated that Cruz Bustamante is “a staunch ally of the homosexual lobby,” and thus conservative Republicans are attacking him on his GLBT equality stands and votes. It was a great disappointment to read the latest newsletter of the GLBT San Diego Democratic Club and see no mention of Lt. Gov. Bustamante…. I urge GLBT votes, money, volunteers and full support for Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante…. Yes, it’s vote NO on the recall and YES on Bustamante. Thank you.

Popular West Hollywood Mayor Jeffrey Prang (right) at the Nicole M. Ramirez Los Angeles GLBT Scholarship benefit at the Le Meridien Hotel
Many of you have been asking me about a GLBT reception for our new police chief, William Lansdowne…. Well, it’s been set and will be held on Oct. 28 at a private residence, with invitations going out next month. The official hosts for this invitation-only reception will be the police chief’s GLBT advisory board and community leaders…. Call (619) 692-1967 for more information. Great news for our community — Chief Lansdowne has kept popular and hardworking Sgt. Mark Dallezotte as his special liaison to the GLBT community … outstanding decision chief!
19 Hours in L.A.
This past Sunday, Bob Lehman (AVER president) and I headed to Los Angeles, but before we hit the freeway, we stopped by Robert Oakes’ (former San Francisco director for Gov. Davis) birthday party in Normal Heights. Bob and I were going to Los Angeles for a gala benefit for the “Nicole Murray-Ramirez Los Angeles Student Scholarship,” which was being held at the beautiful Le Meridien hotel in Beverly Hills, which I highly recommend as Bob and I stayed over night (yes, in separate beds). The benefit raised lots of money for Los Angeles GLBT students…. I did make a request to the scholarship trustees to add Morris Kight to the scholarship’s name and spoke to the crowd about it.
My table partner was the young and handsome Mayor of West Hollywood, Jeffrey Prang and his hot Latino date, Ray Vizcarra.… We spent hours talking politics, people, etc. West Hollywood is indeed fortunate to have Jeffrey Prang as its mayor. It was a fun evening and, needless to say, I have been and will always be honored to have a GLBT student scholarship in Los Angeles named in my honor. A very big thank you to Jim Mangia (former candidate for Lt. Governor), Empress Karina, Edwin Brown of In Los Angeles magazine and everyone who made Bob and me feel so welcome.
